In this video we’ll look at how to hide spoiler text inside of Discord. We’ll walk through how to do this on both the desktop version of Discord, as well as the mobile app.

When you use spoiler or hidden messages, it will look like this on the message threads. The text that we want to be hidden is blacked out, and in order to see what’s underneath, the other user has to click on it to reveal what’s hidden.

Let’s look at how to hide something first on the mobile app. To get started, type a message out, either in a direct message or public.

When you get to the text you want to hide, we need to put pipes, or vertical lines, before and after the text. This symbol looks like this. Type two lines, then the text you want to hide, and then two more lines. When you send the message, it will then black out anything in between the lines.

And again, if the other users want to see what’s underneath, they just have to tap or select the box to reveal what’s hidden.

Next, let’s look at how to do this on the desktop website or app. Once you’re in Discord and you’re typing the message out, you have two ways to hide spoiler text now.

The first, is the same as the mobile version, by using two pipes or vertical lines both before and after the text you want to hide. Send the message, and the text is hidden.

The other option we have now though, is by typing out the text we want to have hidden, and then highlighting it. Next, hover over the text, and here at the end you’ll see an eye icon. By selecting that, it will automatically enter the lines for you. You can then continue typing or send the message with the hidden text.

And that’s how you hide text with spoiler blackouts on the Discord mobile and desktop apps.
