Live Music Now presents a special New Year's Eve concert with VRï

Описание: Three young men from deepest, darkest, chapel-going Wales create a soundtrack to the cultural upheaval of the past two hundred years. Their intricate and infectious interpretations of Welsh traditional melodies and songs have gained them widespread critical acclaim.*

Ring in the new year with the whole range of Wales’ rich musical tradition, from ancient hymn tunes rescued from old manuscripts, to contemporary dance melodies, and everything in between. So grab a glass of something, make sure you’re sitting comfortably and join in the countdown with VRï!

Dewch i’r Frwydr (Hymn Tune from the collection of Ifor Ceri)

Breow Kernow (selection of dance tunes, including a fine five-step by Neil Davey of Cornwall)

Aros Mae’r Mynyddau Mawr (Ceiriog’s famous verses set to a melody by the singer Lynne Denman)

Ton Fechan Meifod (a beautiful and obscure slow air, collected by the late Chris Grooms)

Polca Ffrenig (Up-tempo medley of Welsh dance tunes)

Ffoles Llantrisant (A young heartbroken lad consoles himself by acquiring new farm equipment)

Cyw Bach (an original lively jig, composed by Jordan in honour of his Spaniel)

Taflu Rwdins (a little Swedish music, just for good measure)

Glan Meddwdod Mwyn (One of our favourites - this almost became the melody of our national anthem!)

Nos Galan (A very recognisable melody, this was originally a new years carol before it was hijacked by the Americans for other purposes…)

*VRï's debut album ‘Ty Ein Tadau’ (House Of Our Fathers’) received Best Album and Best Traditional Welsh Language Track in the Wales Folk Awards and a nomination at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards for Best Traditional Song, as well as a nomination for the Welsh Music Prize.
