This Landscape Isn’t as Solid as It Seems | Arizona Sinkhole

Описание:
In the red rock country of northern Arizona lies a hidden geologic feature that tells a deeper story.
This sinkhole formed in the same red sandstone seen across Sedona. But hundreds of feet below, a layer of limestone known as the Redwall Limestone has been slowly dissolved by groundwater for millions of years. As underground cavities expanded, the rock above eventually collapsed.
What we see at the surface is only part of the system.
Water continues to move below, carving unseen spaces through stone and shaping a landscape that is far less solid than it appears.
Out of respect for the site and to help preserve its integrity, the exact location is not being disclosed.
