In the lead-up to the 2022 elections, MIDRIFT used insights from its previous programs in Nakuru and Baringo to push for the creation of Multi-Sectoral Coordination and Collaboration Forums on Election Preparedness. This initiative, supported by the Nakuru County Commissioner and later adopted nationally through a circular by the Ministry of Interior in February 2022, aimed to prevent election-related violence. MIDRIFT was elected co-chair of the Nakuru forum alongside the County Commissioner.
An external evaluation later confirmed that these forums contributed significantly to peaceful elections in Nakuru and Baringo. Building on this success, the forums were repurposed in October 2022 and November 2023 into County Multi-Sectoral Forums for Peace and Security.
At the October 2023 launch of the evaluation report, stakeholders urged MIDRIFT and DIGNITY to develop a policy brief summarizing key findings and lessons. This was included in their 2024–2027 collaboration agreement. By mid-2024, MIDRIFT produced a policy brief highlighting the value of intersectoral collaboration for violence prevention and recommending that the forums be formally repurposed for peace and security through a new government circular.
