Propane School Bus Follow-Up: Boston Public Schools

Описание: In this video, we check in with Boston Public Schools a couple of years after first adopting propane autogas school buses. Now, the district operates 247 buses - about 40 percent of its fleet - on propane autogas. The buses are supporting the citywide goal to reduce emissions by 25 percent by the year 2020, and to be carbon-neutral by 2050. Converting from diesel to propane autogas is moving the city closer to this goal. According to Fleet and Compliance Manager Peter Crossan, "it transformed the schoolyard in both tailpipe emissions and the level of sound." The buses will also improve the district's total cost-of-ownership. Over the lifetime of the buses, Crossan expects the propane autogas buses to save more in preventative maintenance costs, uptime, and fuel efficiency compared with comparable diesel buses. The district reports that the propane autogas buses require far less maintenance than modern diesel systems with sophisticated maintenance systems. In the winter months, the propane autogas buses start up reliably every morning, allowing the district to reduce its cold-start team. Seeing the results of propane autogas buses after 4.5 million miles of urban service, BPS is ready to continue purchasing propane autogas.
