I picked up my boyfriend's favorite beef at the supermarket today. I was pondering what to cook with it when I found this Mille-Feuille Nabe recipe! Warm, cozy, and packed with protein — this is the perfect one-pot meal for busy weeknights. Layers of napa cabbage and thinly sliced beef or pork simmer in a light, flavorful broth for a meal that’s comforting, healthy, and incredibly easy to make. If you’re looking for a high-protein dinner, a low-carb meal, or a simple one-pot recipe, this dish checks every box. Give it a try!
Ingredients:
1/2 head napa cabbage (6–8 large leaves)
1 lb thinly sliced meat (beef or pork)
Optional: mushrooms (enoki, shiitake, etc.)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp mirin
1/2 tsp salt
3–4 cups beef broth
Instructions:
1. Rinse and peel the napa cabbage leaves.
2. Layer the meat slices and cabbage leaves until you have ~3-4 layers, then cut the stack into 4 sections.
3. Place the cabbage-meat sections upright in a pot and pack them tightly. If desired, tuck mushrooms between the layers or in the center for additional flavor (I recommend this! I only omitted them in this video because we had them in another dish with this meal)
4. Make the broth by mixing soy sauce, mirin, salt, and beef broth. Pour the broth over the cabbage.
5. Cover and bring the pot to a boil. Lower to a simmer and cook for 8–10 minutes, or until the meat is fully cooked.
6. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce +/- rice.
