Partition was wrong, must never be repeated: Sudha Murty at Jaipur Literature Festival

Описание: Celebrated author, philanthropist and Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty said children must know India’s history, especially Partition, so they understand it was “wrong” and should never be repeated. Speaking at the 19th Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), Murty said she consciously touches upon the sensitive subject in her latest book The Magic of the Lost Earrings to help young readers grasp the trauma of displacement and migration.

Murty said the central character Nooni is inspired by her granddaughter Anoushka Sunak, and she wanted her to understand the sacrifices behind stability and freedom. Citing the family journey of former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Murty said his family was uprooted during Partition and later again in Africa before settling in London. She also highlighted the cultural loss faced by the Sindhi community after Partition, saying many lost not just land but also language and identity over generations.
