Today let's visit the capital of Lanzarote which is Arrecife. It situated in the centre-east of the island of Lanzarote, of which it has been the capital since 1852. The city owes its name to the rock reef ('Arrecife' is Spanish for 'reef') which covers the beach located in the city. Arrecife is a port town on the east coast, served by ferries to the other islands and also Europe and mainland Africa.

Lanzarote has a marine desert climate according to the Köppen climatic classification. The little precipitation is concentrated in the winter months.

Arrecife offers plenty of shops for the tourists and locals as well, there you can find souvenir shops, clothing stores, and so much more. There are restaurants and bars as well that serve tapas, and different varieties of food. Make sure to check them out.

San Ginés is a church in Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain. Originally the location of a hermitage built in 1574 that contained images of Saint Peter and Saint Ginés, it was flooded and completely rebuilt in 1667. It was expanded in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Saint Ginés (Saint Genesius of Clermont) is Arrecife’s patron saint. Mass is celebrated every evening, including Saturdays, Sundays and holydays, at 7.30 p.m. There are additional Masses at weekends and on feast days. The tower of the Church of San Ginés was inspired by the bell tower of the Church of La Concepción of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

It's a must to also visit El Charco de San Ginés for an aunthentic experience. El Charco literally means “the puddle” and is a lagoon of sea water to be found right in the heart of Arrecife, just a few a walks away from the picturesque main shopping street, Calle León y Castillo.

El Charco is one of Lanzarote’s most iconic and beautiful areas with many excellent bars, cafes and restaurants offering wonderful views, and perfect for enjoying time with your friends, and family.
