The Castellows - Amazing Grace / Sober Sundays - Syracuse Sunset Session

Описание: My video descriptions are usually SO WORDY - I usually max out the 100 characters allowed. Let's try something short & different here, inspired by the thumbnail of Lily singing in the setting sun in Syracuse, New York. This was at the Empower FCU Amphitheatre at Lakeside, across the highway from the Great New York State Fair. Let's just call this August 21st, 2025 show the Syracuse Sunset Session :)

The intro to this is Amazing Grace by The Amazing Justin Maynard - he is the secret ingredient to Castellows live arrangement IMHO, playing guitar, mandolin and fiddle. MUAH!!! People say songs need more cowbell, but really they need more fiddle :)

I LOVE SONGS IN 6/8 TIME LIKE THIS. SAPPY WALTZY SWINGY SONGS! From my fav Beatles songs like Baby's in Black, to pop songs like Avril Lavigne's I'm With You, to lesser known Canadian classics like The Grapes of Wrath's What Was Going Through My Head, and to instrumental songs like Theme from Summer Place. So tender. Is that why I love this song? Its one reason. The other is the lyrics are so powerful about standing by someone you love during hard times. I sang this to my son earlier this year on the way to the hospital when he was going through a bad anxiety attack - we are getting help :) Having people in your corner to "steady your hands even when they shake", like the song says, is important in life to cope through challenging times.

I first heard this song live in Malone Junction in NY at the Franklin County Fair in 2024. Just the ladies playing acoustic without the band arrangement. Here this is:    • The Castellows Sober Sundays (unplugged) F...  

That was the first time they sang it live and Lily said she was nervous because she had to sing Wyatt Flore's part and he was so good. Of course she does fine. It works for this and other songs where she sings Flatland Cavalry's part in Place They Call Home too. In Malone, that unplugged performance is THE BEST way to hear Ellie's wonderful voice - check out the angelic, high notes at the end. SO GOOD!!!
