For more than a decade, Kwame Ayensu has been building his craft behind the camera.
He began in 2013, working across events and weddings, learning pace, framing, timing. Over time, that foundation gave way to something more intentional. By 2018, his focus had shifted towards documentary work, first in shorter pieces shared online, then gradually into longer-form films exploring people, place, and industry.
In 2025, Kwame joined WasteTrade Ghana to document what would become the WasteTrade Ghana Documentary, a film that has since reached more than two million viewers. But the numbers are not what define the work.
In this conversation, Kwame speaks about what draws him to real stories, what he looks for when filming, and why documenting recycling in Ghana is about more than materials or trade. It is about context, perception, and the way stories shape how industries are understood.
