Russia to Resume Ukraine Grain Shipments, Defense Minister Says

Описание: Moscow announced on Wednesday it will resume its participation in the Turkish and U.N. brokered grain deal after receiving written guarantees from Ukraine that it will not use the sea corridor for military actions against Russian forces.

Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said Ukraine had formally committed to using the safe shipping corridors through the Black Sea exclusively in accordance with the Black Sea initiative, in reference to the separate U.N. and Turkey-backed agreements signed by Moscow and Kyiv on July 22.

"The Russian Federation believes the guarantees it received are sufficient to resume the implementation of the agreement - the initiative for the safe transportation of grain and food from the ports of Ukraine," Konashenkov added.

Russia suspended its participation in the grain deal over the weekend, citing allegations of a Ukrainian drone attack against its Black Sea fleet.

The United Nations and Turkey brokered separate deals with Russia and Ukraine in July to ensure Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia would receive grain and other food from the Black Sea region.
