Age word problems can seem a bit confusing, especially when we need to compare the ages of 2 people in the past, present or future.

In this Practicle math video, let’s learn an easy way to help you solve such math problems. We’re going to use one of the most problem solving techniques in Singapore math known as model drawing.

Using the Primary 5 Math question below as an example, we’ll see how we can draw the bar model to represent the word problem and make it easy for you to figure out how to work out the answer:

“Polly is 13 years older than Ashwin. The sum of their age will be 41 in eight years’ time. How old is Ashwin now?”
