He's walking towards what he perceives as an inevitability.
It’s not that Tim believed he deserved an easy way out, which for all the things he had done he’s sure as hell that he doesn’t deserve one. But he’s just not quite sure why it would matter if he didn’t keep going when he’s already lost so much.
