Foreign or unfamiliar tastes are reflected musically by resorting to clichés and stereotypes that allow different nations to be identified, often in a picturesque way. A sarabande of Spanish origin and bagpipe and drum music are evoked by Marin Marais, while Sainte-Colombe's “Prélude” is inserted in a typically French style.
