This is a Sri Lankan feast introduced by a Muslim family from the South and caught on. Although it is not so main stream and less known to many. In the Sri Lankan Muslim community this is a very popular feast enjoyed at various occations.
There are many recipes that varies from district to district and different safeguarded family recipes too. Some recipes have more variations and more items added. There is chicken/ Beef/ Fish or the seafood #khiddurice The seafood version however is also known as "watti soru" or "kettu choru" but the idea is that it is always served in a basket weaved from coconut leaves so it is easy to carry around. This meal is for travellers and travelling crowds back in the day. But now it is enjoyed at various occations. I have made the easier version of the seafood kiddu with my very own tomatoe fish curry recipe that will work well with this khiddu. .
