Away from Carlisle station for a change!

and around Morecambe Bay at Cark & Cartmel, Kents Bank, Arnside, Hest Bank

Interesting to compare the soft tones of Braunton compared with the bark of Tangmere.

With much time to spare, and no intention to be driving around Cumbria today, I went first to Kents Bank to see the Station Library set up by Dr Paul Salveson at his home in the station house.

Then on to Cark - I had a personal thing to do - where I used to play - and get thrown off the station as a lad! Then to Arnside for tea and the most fantastic Toffee Walnut and Coffee cake and some tea!

Cark, Kents Bank and Arnside with its long viaduct over the river Kent are on the former Ulverstone & Lancaster, later Furness Railway. If you want to know more about that line, my book from the 1990s can still be found on eBay and in good second hand bookshops!

Still a couple of hours to spare so I nipped to Arkholme on the old Furness & Midland line to see Tangmere heading light engine and tender-first from Hellifield to Carnforth

I'd intended to get a longer pan shot of The Lakelander at Arnside but the haze put paid to that.
I;d also hoped to have got from Arnside to Hest Bank before Braunton headed south Light Engine - Arnside is a busy spot this time of year with narrow lanes. Plus the 30 and 20 mph limits on the roads through Carnforth, Bolton le Sands and Hest Bank didn't help.
