Na mitologia antiga, as parcas são divindades romanas, que correspondem às moiras gregas: são deusas infernais que tecem o fio da vida e personificam o destino humano. Em outras palavras, são as divindades que ditam o destino dos homens. Trata-se do mito das três irmãs fiandeiras: Cloto, que enrola o fio da vida; Láquesis, que o tece; e Átropos que corta o fio ao seu bel prazer. Ao enrolar o fio, Cloto está preparando a vida de cada indivíduo, sua duração, tenacidade e resistência às adversidades. Em seguida, sua irmã Láquesis tece o fio que determina a bem-aventurança ou o infortúnio de cada indivíduo, ao longo de sua existência. Ao cabo, Átropos corta o fio em algum ponto específico, determinando o fim daquela vida em particular. Há variações na mitologia, segundo as quais as parcas seriam também responsáveis pelo destino dos deuses e de todos os seres.

THE FATES
In ancient mythology, the Fates are Greek and Roman infernal deities who weave the thread of life and determine human destiny. This is the myth of the three spinner sisters: Clotho, who winds the thread of life, Lachesis, who spins it, and Atropos who cuts the wire. By coiling the wire, Clotho is preparing the life of every human individual, his or her life, toughness and resistance to adversity. Her sister Lachesis spins the thread that determines the happiness or misery of each individual, throughout his or her existence. In the end, Atropos cut the wire to finish each particular life. There are variations in mythology, in which the Fates would also be responsible for the destiny of gods and other beings.
