Cooktown - named after Captain James Cook, who spent over a month here when his ship, The Endeavour, was damaged after it struck the Great Barrier Reef - lies at the base of Cape York.
Surrounded by rainforest, there's plenty to see and do - whether it's exploring the historic town, driving the Bloomfield Track to Cape Tribulation, or enjoying a beer at the famous Lion's Den.
