I spent a day in Jimbocho, Tokyo, in search of the Morisaki Bookshop. This silent vlog captures the magic of the world’s largest book town.
📖 Inspired by: Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa
📍 Location: Jimbocho Antique Book District, Chiyoda City, Tokyo

As a lover of Satoshi Yagisawa's novel, I found myself reminiscing about Takako’s world. I decided to go on a silent pilgrimage to the Kanda Jimbocho district, where rows of old bookshops line the streets like a sanctuary for the imagination.
In this video, we wander through Yasukuni- dori avenue where rows of old bookshops line the streets. I wondered how the place must look like during the Kanda Used Book Festival. The booktown of Tokyo has over 170 bookshops and those bookshops are crammed with books. books everywhere- from floor to ceiling, left right and centre. Old books, rare books, photography books, art books, old posters- what isn't there?
They say Jimbocho has so many curry places because it's easy to eat curry while holding a book in your hand. Whether it's the scent of old books or the spicy tangy taste of a soup curry- Jimbocho is your paradise if you love enjoying a quiet day lost in the literary world.
I also visited Bumpodo, an iconic art supply store founded in 1887, whose historic facade has survived earthquakes and wars to remain a landmark of this literary district.
Whether you are a fan of Days at the Morisaki Bookshop or just a curious traveler, I hope this video captures the quiet, soulful side of Tokyo.

Bumpodo (文房堂): It is designated as an "important building" for Chiyoda’s urban scenery and is famous for its Gallery Cafe on the 3rd floor.
Founded in 1887, Bumpodo is one of Japan's most historic art supply stores and a landmark of the Jimbocho Book Town.
It was the first shop in Japan to produce domestic oil paints and was a favourite of legendary Japanese writers and poets.

Soup Curry (スープカレー): Jimbocho is officially known as Tokyo’s curry capital because it boasts the highest concentration of curry specialty shops in Japan. The tradition began decades ago as a convenient, hearty meal for the district's large student population and busy writers who needed "one-handed" food they could eat while holding a book.
