Hey trike enthusiasts!
We’ve been working on a 2004 Boom Trike Fun 500 Piaggio engine equipped with the Comex reverse gearbox/differential—and we discovered why reverse gear was impossible to engage: two internal gears were worn down so badly they couldn't mesh. After stripping the unit, it became clear this is a common design flaw in this setup.
Unfortunately, since Boom is no longer building these trikes, OEM parts and support are very limited. That’s why we’re making a series of YouTube videos to show exactly what goes wrong, how to identify the issue, and what you can do to fix or improve the gearbox setup for good.
