Hey everyone! I'm Yao.Today’s the third morning of my post-resignation cross-China trip, and right now, we’re in Mengzi, Yunnan.
Quick trivia—did you guys know Mengzi is the birthplace of crossing-the-bridge rice noodles? There’s a legend behind it: A scholar used to live on an island, studying day and night to pass the imperial exams. His wife would bring him meals every day, but the trip was so long that the food would always be cold by the time she got there.
One day, she noticed that the layer of oil floating on the meat broth could keep it warm. So from then on, she’d bring the hot broth first, then add the rice noodles right before sending it over to him. And guess what? After eating this dish every day, her husband topped the imperial exams! That’s how crossing-the-bridge rice noodles got its name.
