In this project, a prototype mechanical Braille actuator is designed and modeled using SolidWorks12. Some of the components are built using a 3D printer. The final prototype is driven by push-type solenoids, connected to an Arduino board. When a user inputs a character on the keyboard, the code generates arrays of 1's and 0' corresponding to the positions of the pins that need to be raised or lowered to display the input character. In order to erase the previous character, a function in the code retains the previous array and check with the current array to determine which pins have to be driven. The solenoids drive a cam-follower assembly, which then drives the pins.
