First Look at Morkin: A Solo Game 40 Years in the Making (Sort of)

Описание: A day after I was born the game Lords Of Midnight was released in 1984. This game, which has recently been upgraded and made playable on literally every platform imaginable (https://thelordsofmidnight.com/blog/t..., was a simulation/rpg/battle game that outdid just about every game I played between then and 1994. It had 32,000 different screens, allowed for simultaneous control of 4 party members, two different ways to complete the game, and an active in-game move economy. MOST of this has been faithfully reproduced in Morkin.

Something between a game book, a text-based video game, and a TTRPG, Morkin zeroes in the adventure of one of the characters from the original game, the eponymous Morkin who you take control of. While it in some ways has the sequencing of a lone wolf game book, it is elevated by an open ended map, a world exploration map, emergent gameplay scenarios, and a dynamic inventory and companion mechanic system.

In this video, I boot up a "Morkin" (high dex, mid strength, okay intelligence, not so good charisma) and take him for a spin, showing off a taste of how the game operates. It's a taste, but enough of a taste for the ones who have long craved this sort of thing to know they have a treat coming soon.

Per the author, "Morkin is a table-top, solo-player game inspired by The Lords of Midnight, the strategy and adventure epic fantasy game created by Mike Singleton and first released for the ZX Spectrum in 1984. The Lords of Midnight is often ranked among the greatest role-playing and strategy games of the 1980s."

Morkin is set to launch around March 2025 and will be available in both physical and PDF formats. Initially, it will be offered through Kickstarter and later through DriveThruRPG (Book and PDF) and Amazon (Book).
