René Magritte’s work has always caught my attention, as it is so mysterious and captivating. So when a few months ago I decided to paint a self-portrait, I knew it was an opportunity.
I like works that contain a sense of mystery, a lack of identity, so this “you see me but you don’t see me” idea seemed like a good approach.
I don’t usually paint in oil; it’s a technique I haven’t mastered. But 2026 is the year to try new things, and I’ve decided to go with oil.
