·      I’m a certified wildlife biologist with a masters in biology and I have been in the job market for 20 years from zoos and aquariums to fishing boats to wildlife surveys across 3 continents and being paid to work in over 30 states. I have done the hiring process; reviewed resumes and I know what it takes to get hired. I have seen several PHDs who can’t get jobs in wildlife or ecology for several reasons such as refusing to take the courses required to be 0486 qualified (9 credits of botany is what gets many of them). I will elaborate more on that and what is required for a 0486 later. I will also link many wildlife/ecology job boards below. And before we get into it, I have reviewed dozens of people’s resumes or CVs who are trying to work in wildlife or ecology and I am happy to do so if you reach out, many times it’s that we as wildlife professionals don’t do a good job of really selling your skills, and putting pen to paper of what you have actually done

·      Let’s get into it. 

1.     Degree not required for technicians but it is for advancement.

2.     Work well with others 

3.     Be in good shape 

4.     Be able to write reports 

5.     Be able to analyze data

6.     Have a diverse background (certifications)

7.     Be self-sufficient 

8.    Be comfortable working with bio samples, and chemicals
