The name Hamamönü originates from the Karacabey Hamam (Karacabey Hamamı) situated within. Translated literally, it means "In Front of the Bath."

Constructed between 1427 and 1440 by Celaleddin Karacabey Ibn-i Abdullah, the chief judge (kazasker) of Sultan Murad II, the Karacabey Hamam stands as a significant component of the Karacabey Mosque complex. Among the oldest structures in Ankara, the bath underwent restoration in 1988. Currently open for service, it accommodates up to 94 people.
