Villagers Storm Kanas Tehsildar Office Over Eviction Drive in Puri

Описание: Tension escalates in Kanas of Puri district as hundreds of villagers oppose the government’s eviction notice over alleged encroachment of public land in Gadasanput Panchayat.

For over 30 years, several families have been living on the land, building homes and sustaining their livelihoods. Now, after the government decided to acquire the land for a company project, the tehsil office issued eviction notices. In protest, villagers stormed the Tehsildar’s office and submitted a memorandum, declaring they will not leave their ancestral land.

They have even warned of an indefinite hunger strike if forceful eviction takes place. Tehsildar Himanshu Shekhar Giri stated that the memorandum has been received and discussions will be held with the affected families.
