A rural train line winding through the heart of Nagano, the Koumi Line offers a slower, more scenic way to explore Japan. We took on the challenge of riding the entire route, hopping off at small country stations along the way. From local museums to dairy farms and peaceful nature spots, every stop had something unique to offer.
With limited trains and time pressure, we had to improvise more than once. But in the end, we made it — and found some unexpected beauty along the way.
