Eltz Castle is a medieval castle located in the hills above the Moselle river, between Koblenz and Trier. It is still owned by a branch of the same family that lived there in the 12th century. The houses of the Rübenach and Rodendorf families in the castle are open to the public, The Kempenich branch makes use of the other third.
👉🏼👉🏼 The main part of the castle is made up of eight towers with a maximum of eight floors, reaching heights of 30 to 40 meters. They are fortified with thick outer walls. About 100 members of the families who owned the building lived in the more than 100 rooms of the castle.
👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼 Platteltz, a Romanesque tower, is the oldest part of the building. In 1472 the Rübenach house was completed, built in late Gothic. Worth mentioning is the Lower Rübenach Room, a living room, or the Rübenach bedroom with its lavishly decorated walls.
