Описание: A mouth-watering fixture is on the cards when New Zealand take on South Africa in Christchurch in the fifth and final T20I of the series on Wednesday (March 25). The series is nicely poised at 2-2 with the picturesque Hagley Oval hosting the series decider. The Proteas decimated the hosts in the series opener at Bay Oval before.

The Kiwis bounced back with comprehensive victories at Seddon Park and Eden Park to go ahead in the series. With several key players missing from the fourth T20I due to various reasons the Black Caps allowed the Keshav Maharaj-led side to come back in the series with a 19-run win in Wellington.

New Zealand will again be without Tom Latham as he has been ruled out of the 5th and final T20I due to a minor fracture in the top of his left thumb. The recovery is expected to be around 2-3 weeks. He was set to be the stand-in skipper for the last two games filling in for Mitchell Santner. But unfortunately Latham missed the previous match after sustaining a left thumb injury in the third T20I before the scans confirmed his unavailability for the series decider.

Jimmy Neesham who led the T20 World Cup 2026 runners-up in Wellington will lead the Black Caps in the last T20I as well. Neesham didn't have a great start to his captaincy career as NZ failed to chase 165. He leaked 49 runs in his four overs which is the joint-most by a player on captaincy debut in T20Is.

Maldives' Umar Adam also gave 49 runs in his first T20I as skipper. Batting first South Africa lost Wiaan Mulder in the first over for a duck. Tony de Zorzi and Connor Esterhuizen rebuilt the innings with an 81-run second-wicket partnership. The latter scored his maiden T20I fifty while the former played the second fiddle.

The middle order consisting of Rubin Hermann Dian Forrester Jason Smith and George Linde got into the double figures with useful cameos to push the total to 164/5. For New Zealand Kyle Jamieson who delivered a wicket maiden first over was the most successful bowler with 2/29. Ben Sears and Cole McConchie were superb in their four overs to finish with 1/22 and 1/26 respectively. Zak Foulkes was decent while Neesham went for runs.

The Kiwis were off to a flying start with debutant Katene Clarke scoring a couple of boundaries and Tim Robinson getting off the blocks pretty quickly. Dane Cleaver and Nicky Kelly then tried to keep going but failed to convert their starts into a big innings. They collapsed in the second half of the run chase and bundled out for 145 inside 19 overs.

Gerald Coetzee ran the show with a three-wicket haul. Ottneil Baartman debutant Prenelan Subrayen and Keshav Maharaj chipped in with a couple of scalps each to complete NZ's decimation. Mulder picked up a solitary wicket but it was he who started the Proteas' downfall.

McConchie was recently signed as a replacement player for the Pakistan Super League (PSL). With PSL around the corner there could be a possibility that McConchie will miss the series decider.

New Zealand have never won a bilateral T20I series against South Africa barring one-off encounters. Neesham and Co. will look to script history at Hagley Oval while South Africa will aim to seal the series and take revenge for the T20 WC semi-final debacle at Eden Gardens. Who will win the decider and claim the series?
