Описание: One of the most important theorems in the cohomology theory of coherent sheaves on projective varieties is Serre duality. In this video, we show how this works in the case for curves. The theorem has many uses, in particular, it gives an effective vanishing theorem for higher cohomology. We go through such a result which states that when the degree of a divisor exceeds the degree of the canonical sheaf, then the corresponding invertible sheaf has vanishing first cohomology.
