In this video, I break down Saved!, the Christian teen pregnancy satire starring Jena Malone and Mandy Moore, and argue that it was Patient Zero for the entire 2000s–2010s teen pregnancy media era. Before Juno, 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager, there was Mary Cummings getting pregnant while trying to “fix” her gay boyfriend at American Eagle Christian High School.
