Preparing for Civil Services Exam is a challenging task. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, success may remain elusive for a few attempts. With every passing year, pressure starts to mount on you. Hairlines recede and waistlines bulge. Your crush gets engaged to someone else leaving you crushed in the process.
Seeing your peers getting good jobs and settling down in their lives while you burn the midnight oil, can be quite unsettling. The earlier enthusiastic support from friends and family starts to wane. Self doubt creeps in and the poor aspirant withdraws into a shell away from the rest of the World. It only becomes a vicious cycle after that.
It is therefore crucial to have a Plan B ready for execution after the second attempt, if not earlier. Pursuing a PG, appearing for other competitive exams, applying for fellowships, upgrading your skills for transitioning to the Private Sector etc. can be thought about.
