In March of 2021 the 2020 OffBeat Best of the Beat Awards were announced. OffBeat staff and writers nominated Bad Operation, Courtney Bryant, Mahmoud Chouki, Saint Amethyst and SaxKixAve for Best Emerging Artist. The public then voted online and Chouki emerged as the winner. What follows is Chouki’s description of a musical odyssey that has taken him from his native Morocco to a newfound home in New Orleans.
