Day 10 of my Everest Base Camp Trek was one of The Toughest Day! Trekking from Lobuche (16,210ft/4,910m) to Gorakshep (16,863ft/5,140m) is extremely difficult for me because I am not a regular hiker and did not train for high altitude trekking! On top of that, I got sick, have flu and cold since Day 5, making every step even harder and keep pushing my limits! I have one more day to go and I can't give up! The weather suddenly changed, I faced heavy snow, freezing temperatures and extreme challenges. A lot of people get High Altitude Sickness here because this is over 5,000m with thin air. My lung is congested with cold and Khumbu cough, it made it worst! I keep coughing at night where I don't have a good night sleep, then I have to wake up at 6am for a higher altitude trekking, this is something I didn't think of and underestimate the challenges! All I have is my stubborn mind and I do not want to waste money and times honestly! The excitement of the adventure kept me going! It is my dream to reach Everest Base Camp, I will keep my spirit up!
As much as I try to be positive, as soon as I step out the guesthouse, I almost fainted! This place is covered by snow because it was snowing since yesterday. I felt like I am at a skiing resort more than trekking! What should I do? This is the First morning that I do not want to leave the guesthouse! To begin with, the guesthouse is very cold too, normally they don't turn on the heater until 5 or 6pm, it is not like I can watch the snowing while zipping my red wine like in the ski resort! Oh well! Let's start with my favorite things to do in snow, handwriting on the snow! Since I grow up without snow, I just love snow, except today when I have to do trekking! Overall, I couldn't see much of the 20,000ft mountains because of foggy and snowing! I couldn't breathe and I need to lean over to cough a lot, almost cough my lung out! I couldn't take a lot of videos or pictures because I need to remove my glove to do it! It is freezing cold and I will have frostbite!
Despite the harsh conditions, the trail reveled some of the most dramatic and breathtaking scenery I've ever seen. Despite the challenges, it won't take away my excitement when I saw the World Famous and Most Dangerous Place to be- The Khumbu Ice! I have seen more than 1,000 pictures and videos about Khumbu Ice and nothing compared to see it with my naked eyes! The Khumbu Icefall loomed majestically in the distance, surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks, creating an unforgettable panorama. Each snow covered path and icy slope tested my endurance, but the sheer beauty of the mountains made every struggle worthwhile. Bucket list check, I am so happy! The crevasse within the Khumbu Icefall can be over 328ft/100m deep, making them extremely dangerous and potentially fatal! Many Everest climbers die here because it is the Most Dangerous Place to be on Earth!
I love animal esp the special one from Himalayan. I didn't see any Zokpe or Yak today but I saw a cute little red bird! This tiny bird is not afraid of me and keep dancing around! It is funny that he was alone and didn't see any other birds around. I hope I am not having hallucination with the thin air at this point! I guess I am too lonely in trekking and I started talking to him! Oh well, I hope he remembers me when I return one day! Also, I saw a tiny waterfall or mountain stream in the middle of no way! This are the little unplan surprises that I enjoy along my journey!
Stayed on the video until the end for some times and fun thing you can do to better prepare yourself for a pee pee at 2am in the dark cold place! This is one-of-a-kind experience that you could not get else way, only in Nepal, only at EBC! It is raw, it is simple, no heater, no light at night, you got to figure out and be smart sometimes! Being adaptable to the environment and harsh weather is a must. I hope my video will help you better understanding the fun part as well as the challenging part! To me, all of these memories will last for a lifetime! This is something money can't buy! It is Priceless!
Nameste!
