Since I made this video, Lyft has made some big updates. They are constantly changing their insurance coverage. ALWAYS speak with a lawyer for your accident.

Here are just a few (not all) Lyft insurance updates:

Update October 23, 2019:

Lyft now works with various partners, including Latitude, Travelers (Constitution State Services), Progressive (United Financial Casualty Company), State Farm (State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company), and Sedgwick.

Here are some states and the insurance company that insures Lyft:

– California (Indian Harbor Insurance Co.)
– Florida and New York (excluding NYC) – Greenwich Insurance Company
– Georgia and Texas (State Farm Fire and Casualty Company)

Update: May 1, 2019

For example, for car accidents occurring starting May 1, 2019, Lyft made a huge change on its Florida insurance policy.

Lyft has lowered its uninsured motorist (UM) insurance limit to just $20,000 per accident. That’s a huge drop in UM coverage. This is big news. And it’s bad for Lyft drivers and passengers. UM coverage only applies if someone other than the Lyft driver was at fault.

What stayed the same in Lyft’s new auto insurance policy?

Lyft kept the same insurance company: Greenwich Insurance Company.

Fortunately, Lyft still has a $1 million limit for liability coverage when the Lyft driver is en route to pickup passengers or during trips. Lyft’s liability coverage pays if the Lyft driver’s negligence caused injuries to someone else.

Update: Jan 3, 2019

The Travelers Companies, Inc. today announced that, effective Feb. 1, 2019, it will become the exclusive provider of U.S. auto insurance claim services for Lyft.

Update: December 16, 2018

In Florida, Lyft is still using York Risk Services Group to handle claims. Lyft's certificate of insurance (online) says that Greenwich Insurance Company is the insurer. Greenwich is part of AXA XL.

However, I've heard that an initial email from York to an injured car occupant said that Indian Harbor Insurance Company is Lyft's insurer. I'm talking about Florida car accident claims. However, this doesn't affect claims since Indian Harbor (like Greenwich) is also part of AXA XL.

Update September 21, 2018:

Lyft has changed insurance companies. For example, in Florida, Lyft now uses Greenwich Insurance Company. Greenwich is part of AXA XL. York Risk Services Group still appears to be handling Lyft claims for Greenwich Insurance Company.

Also, as of September 21, 2018, Lyft has lowered its uninsured motorist (UM) insurance limit when a driver is engaged in a ride. Lyft's new uninsured motorist insurance limit is $250,000 per accident. It used to be $1 million per accident.
