Introduction – The First Day of Creation (Genesis 1:1–5, KJV)
The creation account opens with a profound declaration in Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” This statement sets the stage for everything that follows—introducing God as the eternal Creator who brings all things into existence.
On the first day, the earth is described as “without form, and void,” shrouded in darkness. Yet, “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Then, by divine command, God says: “Let there be light: and there was light.” This moment marks the first separation: light from darkness.
God names the light “Day” and the darkness “Night,” establishing the rhythm of time with evening and morning—the first day.
This passage not only describes the beginning of the physical world, but also reveals a deeper truth: God creates through His word, brings order out of chaos, and begins His creation with light—often understood as a symbol of truth, life, and divine presence.
