UPDATE 2-19. I have had this running 24x7 since late October. We lost power one time, which made the brass shaft break after wearing down over the last couple months. Put a new shaft in and it's been going for the last month. I did NOT think I'd get another season out of it, but knock on wood, I just may.
Trying to get a little more time out of intex hot tub pump. One of the first things to fail on these hot tubs is the pump impeller and impeller shaft. A 50 cent part that they won't sell without the whole pump assembly ($55 if they still have them in stock). I took one of my bad impellers, took all the plastic off that was around the center magnetic piece and then coated the metal with POR 15. It dries rock hard. I'm hoping that I can get a few more months out of the pump/spa before having to spring for a whole new one (it's lasted 2 winters but has gone through 2 impellers and 3 impeller shafts). I have no clue if it will hold up, but I wasn't able to use the impeller as it was, due the plastic cracked and expanded with the magnetic material underneath that it wouldn't spin anymore in the pump assembly. You need to get the brass rods from Lowes (there's a youtube video about that) if your plastic ones are wearing bad.
Not responsible for any damage to your spa due to mods inspired by this video.
I was a tiny step away from chucking the whole thing but then remembered I had some POR15.
