🔧 Welcome back to The Mobility Guy! In today’s in-depth tutorial, I’m showing you exactly how to change the batteries in a small mobility scooter with a battery box—the kind that splits apart for easy transport in the boot of a car.

This is one of the most common types of mobility scooters, and they usually use two 12V deep cycle AGM batteries housed in a removable battery box. Unlike larger scooters where the batteries are fitted inside the body of the scooter, these models are much easier to work on and perfect for learning how to do basic maintenance yourself.

⚠️ Important Note: This video specifically covers scooters with lead acid battery packs (AGM type). It does not apply to suitcase-style folding scooters that use lithium battery systems—these require a different process and precautions.

If your scooter is losing charge quickly or has gone completely flat, chances are the batteries need replacing. Most mobility scooter batteries last between 2 to 3 years, depending on usage and charging habits.
