Описание: UNE MISSION POUR COMPRENDRE, PARTAGER ET MOBILISER

La récente mission des Explorations de Monaco effectuée dans le sud-ouest de l’océan Indien s’est déroulée d’octobre à novembre 2022 entre La Réunion, Maurice et les Seychelles, à bord du navire océanographique et de ravitaillement sud-africain, le S.A. Agulhas II. Elle a réuni plus de 150 participants, d'une vingtaine de nationalités différentes, dont des scientifiques, de jeunes chercheurs et des étudiants d'une école à bord, des cinéastes et des photographes, des plongeurs, des artistes, des communicateurs et l'équipage du navire.

Trois objectifs majeurs
La mission avait pour objectif de :

• COMPRENDRE par une démarche scientifique globale et pluridisciplinaire l’état et le fonctionnement écosystémique de la zone explorée pour ensuite conseiller les parties prenantes par une approche scientifique globale (Sciences de la durabilité).
• PARTAGER par un programme de médiation ambitieux les enjeux et les connaissances avec le plus grand nombre.
• MOBILISER les gouvernements par l’action diplomatique, en mettant à disposition les informations et analyses pour une gestion durable des espaces maritimes.

Une approche holistique
Guidée par un Comité consultatif de quatorze experts internationaux, l'expédition a mis en œuvre une approche holistique basée sur un programme multidisciplinaire incluant les sciences naturelles et sociales. Elle a été développée en concertation avec les autorités de l'île Maurice et des Seychelles.

Un voyage au long cours
L'expédition a nécessité un voyage d'environ 10 000 miles nautiques (18 500 km) aller-retour du Cap et quatre escales à l'île Maurice, à la Réunion, à Mahé (Seychelles) et retour à l'île Maurice. Les deux mois de navigation ont été consacrés à diverses recherches et opérations de terrain. Les activités se sont déroulées en mer pendant les transits, autour de l'atoll d'Aldabra (Seychelles), sur le banc de Saya de Malha, auquel 15 jours d'investigations ont été consacrés, et enfin autour de l'île de Saint Brandon
(Maurice).

A MISSION TO UNDERSTAND, SHARE AND MOBILIZE

The recent Monaco Explorations expedition to the south-west Indian Ocean took place from October to November 2022 between Reunion Island, Mauritius and the Seychelles, on board the South African oceanographic and supply ship, the S.A. Agulhas II. It brought together more than 150 participants, of about 20 different nationalities, including scientists, young researchers and students from a school on board, filmmakers and photographers, divers, artists, communicators and the ship's crew.

Three major objectives
The mission's objectives were to:

UNDERSTAND through a global and multidisciplinary scientific approach the state and ecosystem functioning of the explored area to then advise the stakeholders through a global scientific approach (Sustainability Sciences).
SHARE the issues and knowledge with the largest number of people through an ambitious mediation program.
MOBILIZE governments through diplomatic action, by making available information and analyses for a sustainable management of maritime spaces.

A holistic approach
Guided by an Advisory Committee of fourteen international experts, the expedition has implemented a holistic approach based on a multidisciplinary program including natural and social sciences. It was developed in consultation with the authorities of Mauritius and the Seychelles.

A long journey
The expedition involved a journey of approximately 10,000 nautical miles (18,500 km) round trip from Cape Town and four stops in Mauritius, Reunion, Mahé (Seychelles) and back to Mauritius. The two months of navigation were devoted to various research and field operations. The activities took place at sea during the transits, around the Aldabra atoll (Seychelles), on the Saya de Malha bank, to which 15 days of investigations were devoted, and finally around the island of Saint Brandon
(Mauritius).
