Time for our daily dose of K-enter. To start, some news on BTS' Suga or maybe I should say Min Yoon-gi today.
The new “Min Yoon-gi Treatment Centre” named after BTS member Suga’s real name, has opened at Severance Hospital in Seoul. The centre was established with the donation of 5 billion Korean won, roughly 3.6 million U.S. dollars that Suga made last year. It will provide treatment and support for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, helping them work toward social independence.
Even while taking part in BTS’ busy schedule, Suga has continued to give back to the hospital. Since last year, he has been meeting children with autism together with Professor Cheon Geun-ah the hospital’s paediatric psychiatrist, carrying out music volunteer work.
I remember you telling us about this wonderful act months ago, great to hear the center has now opened.
The donations don't stop there either, Suga and BTS' younger brothers are also spreading the love?
The boy group TOMORROW X TOGETHER signed a global partnership agreement in New York on Tuesday, local time, with UNICEF Headquarters and the Korean Committee for UNICEF for the global campaign “TOGETHER FOR TOMORROW”, which aims to support the mental health of children and adolescents worldwide.
The campaign “TOGETHER FOR TOMORROW” was designed with the purpose of fostering empathy, understanding one another without prejudice, and building a better tomorrow together. This vision aligns with the meaning of the group’s name, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, which signifies “different individuals uniting under one dream to create tomorrow together.”
Over the next two years, together with their agency BIGHIT MUSIC, they plan to donate approximately 2 billion Korean won, about 1.4 million U.S. dollars, to UNICEF’s Global Mental Health Fund.
Now let's move on to sub-unit of SEVENTEEN, it was a much anticipated debut, how did it go?
SEVENTEEN’s sub unit, "S.Coups and Mingyu" , have made a successful debut, as I think many had predicted! Their first mini album “HYPE VIBES,” released on Monday, surpassed 600,000 copies in a single day, which marks the highest-ever first-day sales for an album by a K-pop unit. "HYPE VIBES" also took the No. 1 spot on iTunes “Top Albums” charts in 11 countries/regions and ranked No. 6 on the Worldwide Albums Chart.
In this mini album, S.Coups and Mingyu participated in writing and composing six tracks, including the main track "5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman) (feat. Lay Bankz)" expressing the many facets of everyday life through their own style and sensibility.
I remember how our K-pop expert Jeff Benjamin had huge expectations for this duo.
Thank you for the news Walter.
