Squirt the Painted Turtle is the resident and mascot of Chinn Park and has been delighting library visitors of all ages for more than 20 years. Now, even if you find yourself using the Digital Library more than in-person services, you can check on him at any time via this 24/7 livestream. While the video feed is live, please note that the audio is a looped recording of his tank during the library’s most peaceful hours.

Where did Squirt come from?

Squirt was rescued from a pond that was being drained in Manassas.


What does Squirt eat?

Turtle pellets, dried shrimp, and mealworms. They are stinky but Squirt loves them!


Why does he like sitting on his rock?

Since Squirt does not have direct sunlight, heat from the lamp above his rock makes him nice and warm.


How did Squirt get his name?

He is named after a turtle in the movie Finding Nemo.


Does Squirt need a turtle friend?

Squirt loves seeing library visitors and does not need another turtle to keep him company. We tried once, but he likes to have library visitors all to himself!
