Raynaud's syndrome is characterized by vasoconstriction, primarily affecting peripheral blood vessels, particularly in the fingers and toes. This condition typically manifests in response to cold stimuli, leading to a hyperkinetic vasoconstriction that results in color changes such as white, red, and blue in the affected areas. Emotional stimuli can also trigger similar responses. In contrast, blood pooling, can also result in a blue or purple appearance, but we will also see a mottled patters due to dilated blood vessels. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
