27-year-old active shooter killed after ambushing Border Patrol agents in Texas: police

Описание: A 27-year-old gunman was shot and killed after he ambushed U.S. Border Patrol agents in Texas Monday morning.

Authorities identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said Mosqueda was armed with a rifle as he fired at agents when they arrived at a Border Patrol annex facility in McAllen.

This morning an individual opened fired at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter," the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement posted to X. "This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI."

Law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition.

“There are many, many more rounds of ammunition in his backpack,” Rodriguez said.

In addition, authorities found a white two-door sedan, which had letters painted -- possibly in Latin -- on the driver’s side door.

“What it means, or whether or not it is an underlying reason for him being here, I do not know,” Rodriguez said when asked about the graffiti.

Rodriguez also said the suspect’s motive wasn't immediately known.

House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke out about the shooting, as he posted his thoughts on social media. His post included a link to a report about the shooting.
