Texas Ranger describes active shooter training in Uvalde School Shooting Trial

Описание: CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (WOAI/KABB) - The Uvalde school shooting trial intensifies this week as witnesses step forward to recount the chaos inside Robb Elementary and the role of former Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police officer Adrian Gonzales.

Testifying first today was Terry Snyder, a crime scene investigator with the Texas Rangers. Snyder was called from Floresville to Uvalde on the night of the shooting.

As was the case last week, the more graphic photos were shown only to those inside the courtroom and not to cameras. Jurors were shown some of the shell casings Snyder and his team recovered from the hallway at Robb Elementary.

Snyder was also questioned about law enforcement training and when officers are expected to pursue an active shooter. During questioning, the prosecutor asked Snyder about the rules officers are trained to follow before firing their weapons.

“If you can’t see what you’re shooting at as a police officer, you don’t shoot, is that correct?” the prosecutor asked.

“Correct. We are trained to identify our target,” Snyder responded.


The prosecutor continued, asking whether officers are expected to identify a target before firing, even if they hear gunfire but cannot see where it is coming from. Snyder again answered, “Correct.”

Prosecutors used the testimony to argue that officers are required to pursue an active shooter, even in dangerous situations. The defense countered that officers must move tactically and cannot rush in without a plan or without knowing where the shooter is located.
