Mr Shanahan gives a recitation, in his own inimitable way, of “The Workman’s Friend” more commonly known as “A Pint Of Plain Is Your Only Man”, Flann O’Brien’s best-known poem.
In this penultimate episode of our web series Mr Shanahan introduces the fictitious poet Jem Casey, one of Flann O’Brien’s characters from “At Swim-Two-Birds”. This poem was performed by Eamon Morrissey in his popular one man show on stage and on RTE television, and sang by Brendan Gleeson on RTE's The Late Late Show.
