Our Roots & Wings Youth Symposium

Описание: Our Roots & Wings Youth Symposium brought together youth, families, educators, and community leaders for a powerful day of learning, reflection, and connection. From keynote conversations and breakout sessions to film screenings, creative workshops, and shared meals, the space was filled with dialogue that crossed generations and experiences.

We premiered two short documentaries: "Threads of Freedom: The Case That Changed Labor Law in America" — about former Acting U.S. Secretary of Labor Julie Su's fight for legal justice for Thai garment workers working in conditions of slavery — and "In Joseph Ileto's Eyes" — a film told through the perspective of Ismael and Deena Ileto, the family of Joseph Ileto, who was killed in a hate crime.

Throughout the day, young people were encouraged to listen deeply, speak confidently, and engage with stories that reflect who they are and who they can become. Community voices, cultural expression, and lived experiences took center stage, creating moments of inspiration and collective growth.

At the 1990 Institute, we believe that when youth are supported, heard, and challenged, they grow into thoughtful leaders.
