Steve Grossman - Haresah (w/Lead Music Sheet)

Описание: As a homage to Ornette Coleman "The Shape of Jazz to Come" (1959), Steve Grossman, along with Gene Perla, Don Alias (who would later become together the "Stone Alliance" trio) and Jan Hammer, managed to give birth to one of most influential, avant-gardistic jazz / fusion album of the early seventies, that is "Some Shapes to Come".

The album, characterized by a high communicative potency and an extreme pureness, which is often perceived as an attempt to enter a state of mystical transcendence by the recording group, became so well known and influential in the music scene of those years that it was often referred to (and it still is sometimes), in a highly reverential way, both by musicians themselves and music enthusiasts, as "The Bible".

Steve Grossman could be very often heard playing the soprano saxophone during the seventies (the instrument suddenly became highly demanded during that era due to the rise of jazz-fusion bands), in a way that was very reminiscent of John Coltrane highly emotional, intense approach, prone at the same time to sonic exploration: probably it's not a case that he was using the exact same setup of Coltrane on soprano, that is a Selmer Mark VI soprano saxophone and a Selmer Scroll Shank metal mouthpiece.

Steve Grossman's playing on "Haresah" is an examplary case of his kind of approach on soprano, and should be absolutely considered by soprano saxophone players in order to deepen his style, language and sound.
