Описание: Victims and survivors' dignity will be better protected as tactics to undermine victims during trial are being stamped out, as part of plans to halve violence against women and girls in a decade.

Many victims have their sexual history or previous instances of reporting sexual assault used against them in court to discredit their character. Now, we're raising the threshold so that this information can only be used if proven absolutely and truly necessary to the case.

Other changes to safeguard victims during trial include clarifying when courts can exclude intimidating individuals, use screens to shield witnesses and for victims to have a companion to aid them through this traumatic process.

Broadcaster and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Advocate Pips Taylor spoke to Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy about how the government can better support victims.
