Why did the British actually leave India in 1947? In this deep-dive podcast episode of Undezyn, historian Dr.Srijan Sandip Mandal, with him uncovers the hidden layers behind India’s independence and the painful partition that followed.
Dr Srijan earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Hyderabad, where his thesis examined how the Indian Constitution preserved colonial-era restrictions on speech. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. Previously, he led India's first postgraduate program in Public History at the Srishti Manipal Institute in Bengaluru.
We move beyond the school textbooks to discuss:
Why Muhammad Ali Jinnah didn’t actually "invent" the idea of Pakistan.
How a 1946 Navy Mutiny in Bombay terrified the British more than anything else.
The difference between Independence Day and Republic Day (and why it took 3 years to become a Republic).
The logic behind East and West Pakistan and the eventual birth of Bangladesh.
Why India chose Secularism while Pakistan was formed on religious lines.
Whether you're a history buff or a student preparing for UPSC/CLAT, this episode provides a unique perspective on the end of the British Raj and the making of modern India. Subscribe to Undezyn for more deep dives!
